ABOUT ME · CEO & FOUNDER · SINCE 2001

Hi, I’m Thomas Patrick Schmidt.

I created Powered Lithium to make the lithium market easier to understand. I turn complex supply chains, technical specifications, and fast-moving research into plain, sourced guidance that buyers and curious minds can actually use.

01 / MY STORY

How I got
into lithium.

I started Powered Lithium in 2001, in Wolfsburg, a city shaped by the car industry. Back then, lithium was a quiet material. Most of it went into glass, ceramics, greases, and the first rechargeable batteries for phones and laptops.

Over the years I watched that change. Electric vehicles moved from prototypes to production lines, and batteries began storing solar and wind power for the grid. Lithium went from a niche ingredient to one of the most talked-about materials in the world.

What did not change was how hard the market is to read. Grade names still vary between suppliers, specifications arrive in different formats, and headlines often leave out the context that matters. Too many good projects slow down because the right questions were not asked at the start.

Powered Lithium is my answer: a place to ask sharper questions, compare offers on equal terms, and make decisions grounded in evidence rather than noise.

“Lithium is a small atom with a big responsibility. The better we understand it, the better we can use it.”

02 / HOW I WORK

Four things
I stand by.

These commitments shape everything I publish on this site and every conversation I have about materials.

01

Evidence first

I link to primary public sources such as USGS, IEA, and the U.S. Department of Energy, and I say when information was published.

02

Plain language

Technical detail matters, but it should never be a barrier. I explain terms clearly and keep jargon to a minimum.

03

The buyer’s side

I focus on the questions that make supplier conversations specific: grade, impurities, test methods, documents, and terms.

04

Responsibility in view

Water, energy, communities, and traceability are part of every material decision. I treat them that way.

03 / WHAT I BUILT FOR YOU
